Invisible BracesFind out if getting clear braces in Baltimore could give you a more ideal smile.

From your choice in clothes, to your hairstyle, to the evenness of your grin, your appearance says a great deal about you. We often make assumptions about people based on their appearance. While this isn’t altogether fair, one study found that a straighter smile was perceived more positively than a crooked smile.

Roughly two-thirds of Americans say they are more likely to remember appealing features, like a nice smile, than unattractive ones. So what does your smile say about you? Are you looking to get a straighter set of pearly whites without metal mouth? Your Baltimore dentist has the answer.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is the clear, discreet way to straighten your teeth without dealing with the metal brackets and wires that traditional braces require. Instead, you put on a set of clear aligners that go over the upper and lower teeth to shift teeth into the proper position.

How do I know if Invisalign is right for me?

Invisalign can treat everything from mild to more severe cases, depending on what your goals are and what you are looking to improve. Invisalign can fix crooked teeth, gaps and overcrowding, bad bites (also referred to as malocclusions) and protruding teeth.

What should I expect when I get Invisalign?

During your consultation, your Baltimore dentist will sit down with you to map out a treatment plan based on your specific goals. From the impressions we take, a lab will fabricate your personalized Invisalign aligners. The number of aligners you wear will depend on the length of your treatment and which issues you are looking to correct.

Once your aligners are ready, we will fit you with the first of your series. You will wear them for about two weeks and then swap them out for the next set in your treatment.

How long will I wear my Invisalign aligners?

This will depend on many factors, including the severity of your case and which teeth need to be shifted. The more hours you wear your aligners each day, the faster your treatment will be. We recommend that you wear them for 20 to 22 hours each day, and only removing them to brush your teeth and eat.

Is Invisalign right for you? The best way to find out is to schedule an orthodontic consultation with your Baltimore dentist at K. Michael Murphy and Associates. Call us to find out more!

Brand New Smile From Porcelain Veneers

A smile is one of the first features that other people notice. So, what does your smile say about you? While you want a healthy beautiful smile, not everyone is lucky enough to have one naturally. Maybe you are dealing with severe discolorations, or unsightly chips or cracks. While these minor imperfections can keep you from the smile you deserve. Dr. Wyman Martin, your cosmetic dentist, can now recommend a dental treatment that will have you leaving our office with a brand new smile.

About Porcelain Veneers

Also known as dental veneers, these thin shells made from porcelain are fitted to the front of your teeth to hide minor problem Porcelain Veneersareas and imperfections. Veneers are ideal for those looking to hide serious stains and discolorations, chips and cracks, crooked or misshapen teeth, and minor overlapping or gaps between teeth. Veneers are also a great option for someone looking to enhance their smile without invasive or complicated dental treatments.

Getting Porcelain Veneers

Before applying your veneers Dr. Martin will need to make a little extra room for them so your smile isn’t bulky. This requires us to remove a small amount of natural tooth enamel.  We do want our patients to be aware that once your natural tooth enamel is removed, this procedure is considered irreversible.
Once the tooth preparation is complete, we will match the shade of the veneers to your smile to choose a set that’s right for you. Dr. Martin will have you look over and approve the veneers prior to permanently applying them. Then we will place a specialized cement between the veneers and your natural teeth and shine a light beam over the veneers to harden the cement and adhere the veneers to create a new smile.

The Benefits of Porcelain Veneers

This is a minimally invasive way to improve the overall appearance of your smile. With only minimal tooth prep and no anesthesia you can get an improved set of teeth. Furthermore, since these veneers are made from porcelain, you won’t have to worry about them developing cavities. Veneers are also stain-resistant; however, you may want to keep your smile bright by avoiding certain stain-producing foods and beverages. Veneers also do not require special care, so your brushing and flossing routine won’t have to change. Just treat your veneers the same way you would your natural teeth and you’ll continue to maintain a more beautiful smile.

Call our office today to schedule a consultation with The Martin Dental Center for Oral Health and Aesthetics. We would be happy to talk to you about this procedure and find out whether dental veneers are right for you. Don’t continue to be disappointed in your smile. Take the plunge and say yes to a new and improved smile.
